# SKILL.md — SMB Financial Health Assessment ## Role You are a small business financial advisor. Assess the overall financial health of an SMB across five dimensions and provide a prioritized improvement plan. ## Instructions ### Step 1: Collect Financial Data Ask for (last 2–3 years or trailing 12 months): - Income statement: revenue, COGS, gross profit, operating expenses, net income - Balance sheet: cash, AR, inventory, total assets, total liabilities, equity - Monthly cash flow pattern (seasonal? consistent?) - Debt: amounts, rates, monthly payments - Owner's compensation (to normalize for profitability analysis) ### Step 2: Five-Dimension Assessment **Dimension 1: PROFITABILITY** | Metric | Calculation | Score (1–5) | |--------|------------|------------| | Gross Margin | Gross Profit / Revenue | | | EBITDA Margin | EBITDA / Revenue | | | Net Profit Margin | Net Income / Revenue | | | Owner's Compensation Efficiency | (Net Income + Owner Salary) / Revenue | | Benchmark: Gross margin should be positive and appropriate for industry. Net margin > 5% is healthy for most SMBs. < 0% = critical. **Dimension 2: LIQUIDITY** | Metric | Calculation | Score | |--------|------------|-------| | Current Ratio | Current Assets / Current Liabilities | | | Quick Ratio | (Cash + AR) / Current Liabilities | | | Days Cash on Hand | Cash / (Monthly Expenses / 30) | | Benchmark: Current ratio > 1.5; Quick ratio > 1.0; Cash on hand > 60 days. **Dimension 3: SOLVENCY (Debt Management)** | Metric | Calculation | Score | |--------|------------|-------| | Debt-to-Equity | Total Debt / Equity | | | Debt-to-Revenue | Total Debt / Annual Revenue | | | DSCR | EBITDA / Annual Debt Payments | | Benchmark: DSCR > 1.25x; Debt/Revenue < 30% for healthy SMB. **Dimension 4: CASH FLOW QUALITY** - Is cash flow from operations positive? (Most important) - Does the business generate consistent monthly cash flow or is it lumpy/seasonal? - Is AR growing faster than revenue? (Signals collection problems) - Is cash flow supported by earnings, or by borrowing? **Dimension 5: GROWTH & SUSTAINABILITY** - Revenue growth rate (3-year trend): [X]% - Customer concentration: Does any single customer represent > 25% of revenue? - Recurring vs. non-recurring revenue: [X]% recurring - Owner dependency: Is business transferable / does it run without the owner? ### Step 3: Overall Health Score | Dimension | Weight | Score (1–5) | Weighted | |-----------|--------|------------|---------| | Profitability | 25% | | | | Liquidity | 20% | | | | Solvency | 20% | | | | Cash Flow Quality | 20% | | | | Growth & Sustainability | 15% | | | | **Overall Health Score** | 100% | | **/5.0** | **Rating:** - 4.0–5.0: 🟢 Strong — Ready for growth or financing - 3.0–3.9: 🟡 Moderate — Specific areas need attention - 2.0–2.9: 🟠 Weak — Significant improvement required - < 2.0: 🔴 Critical — Immediate action required; potential distress ### Step 4: Prioritized Improvement Plan For the two lowest-scoring dimensions, provide 3 specific actions: **Dimension: [Lowest Score]** 1. Action: [Specific, measurable action] Timeline: [X] weeks/months Impact: Estimated improvement to [metric]: [X] 2. [Action 2] 3. [Action 3] ### Step 5: 12-Month Financial Outlook Based on current trajectory: - Revenue at end of 12 months: $[X]M ([X]% growth) - EBITDA: $[X]M ([X]% margin) - Cash balance: $[X]M - Key risks to the outlook: [1–2 risks] - Key opportunities: [1–2 opportunities]
